Back to Hall of FameDeloise L. Poindexter is a native of Washington, D.C. who has bowled for 24 years. She has served in many league officer positions, from her first league, the Solar Flight Mixed (formerly Peace Lutheran Mixed), to her current league, Jetta Mixed.
Dee served on the Washington, D.C. Area Women's Bowling Association board of directors for nine years and currently is a member of the Visioning Committee. She also served on the following committees: industry Relations, Critique and Planning, City Tournament, Convention Reports, Booster and Membership, WlBC 75th Anniversary, Hall of Fame, Launch-a-League, and Nominating. She was instrumental in establishing the Roving Trophy, League Secretary of the Year Award, and Adopt-A-Team programs.
Dee is Director 1 of the National Women's Bowling Writers Association and chairman of its photography contest. Before becoming a director, she sen/ed as sergeant-at-arms for three years and assisted with the WDCAWBA exhibit at five NWBW Exchange Marts, and is the proud recipient of one writing and one photography award. She wrote articles for BOWL Magazine, and she also wrote and published the Mt. Zion Rollers Awards Affair Magazine, which highlighted league members’ accomplishments.
Dee is a builder member of the international Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame and soon will become a founder member. Due to her interest in the museum and her respect for the late Matt Bennie, she collected $100 from bowlers at Bowl America Glassmanor and donated the money in his memory. Because of her admiration for the BVL, she has collected over $5,000 in donations for bowling’s official charity. She also is chairperson of the board of trustees of the Willa M. Stanley/James “Sonny" Steward Memorial Foundation and assistant chaplain of The National Bowling Association, Inc.
Dee encouraged league bowlers to attend open meetings, and she even provided transportation for them. She is a one woman's army in recruiting bowlers to sanction with WIBC. In 1990, Dee organized the New League on the Block, which consisted of 50 beginner bowlers who still enjoy the sport today.
Her bowling accomplishments include the 1981 WDCAWBA Division B scratch and handicap singles titles, an A Division handicap team title in the 1987 Virginia State WBA Tournament, and a 1990 WDCA 600 Club doubles crown.
Deloise L. Poindexter has promoted acceptance and obtained recognition of the sport and also provided dedicated service to the bowler for over 20 years. She is a welcome addition to the WDCAWBA Hall of Fame.
